Comfort & Style Through the Third Trimester
Hey Babes!! It's been hectic lately, and even writing this, I’m in pain. But let's talk about something I love. Style while enduring the pains of pregnancy, especially during summer. Pregnancy completely changes your relationship with fashion, especially once you enter the third trimester. At this stage, comfort becomes non negotiable, but that doesn’t mean your personal style has to disappear.
As someone balancing motherhood with a toddler, fashion events, and everyday life during pregnancy, I quickly realized that dressing comfortably and feeling confident can absolutely coexist. The third trimester comes with swollen feet, a growing bump, exhaustion, back pain and constantly changing body proportions, but fashion can still be empowering during this season of life.
I’ve learned that the key is finding pieces that move with you instead of against you. Soft fabrics, oversized blazers, stretchy dresses, elevated loungewear, matching sets, and supportive footwear became essential in my wardrobe. And honestly, stretchy maxi dresses have been an absolute lifesaver during these summer months. They’re breathable, effortless, flattering, and most importantly, comfortable enough to survive an entire day while pregnant.
Let’s be real, being pregnant during the summer is probably one of the hardest combinations imaginable. The heat, swelling, exhaustion, and constant discomfort can make getting dressed feel impossible some days. But somehow, it’s manageable when you find outfits that work with your body instead of fighting against it. A good stretchy maxi dress paired with simple accessories and comfortable sandals can still make you feel put together without sacrificing comfort.
One thing I truly embraced during pregnancy was redefining what “getting dressed up” meant. Some days it was a sleek monochromatic outfit with sneakers and gold accessories. Other days it was a simple maxi dress with minimal effort because that’s all my body could handle that day and that’s okay too. Fashion during pregnancy doesn’t have to be extravagant to make you feel beautiful.
The third trimester also taught me to give myself grace. Your body is doing incredible work, and it deserves comfort without guilt. There is power in dressing in a way that supports both your physical needs and your confidence. Pregnancy style isn’t about hiding your body, it’s about honoring it.
I think society often pushes the idea that maternity fashion has to fit into one category, but pregnancy style can still be edgy, sophisticated, editorial, feminine, minimalist, or bold. You don’t lose your identity during pregnancy, your style simply evolves with you. For example, I even became the talk of the triage with my fashion sense. Every time I go to the hospital for my NSTs, the nurses are always shocked at how dressed up I am, especially while being heavily pregnant. One nurse even told me, “If we had a monthly award for best dressed mom, you would win it.”
Moments like that remind me why I continue to keep up with my personal style no matter where I’m going or what I’m doing. Pregnancy doesn’t mean you have to lose yourself or stop putting effort into how you present yourself. I love showing other women that it’s still possible to feel confident, stylish, and put together, even during the hardest stages of pregnancy.
For me, fashion became less about perfection and more about feeling like myself through every stage of motherhood. And honestly, there’s something incredibly beautiful about embracing both softness and strength at the same time.
To every mama navigating the third trimester this summer, give yourself grace, stay cool when you can, wear the stretchy maxi dress, and remember that comfort is not the opposite of style, it’s part of it.
